OUR FIRST SCHOOL PROJECT IN CAMBODIA:
TAMEOUN PRIMARY SCHOOL COMPOUND – BATTAMBANG
During our visit to Battambang in early February 2023, we visited the Tameoun school compound and were struck by the dilapidated state of the school’s main infrastructure. Responding to this emergency became an absolute priority for us. We therefore decided to build a new school building with 6 classrooms to replace the old building, the largest in the school grounds, which was in such poor condition that it had to be demolished for safety reasons. Ta Meun School was built in 1957 and operated until 1975. The school was shut down during the Khmer Rouge regime, as education collapsed during the five years of civil war. It gradually reopened in 1979, marking the end of the «Khmer Rouge regime».
Around 500 families from four villages send their children to Tamoun primary school.
New 6-room school building and sanitary facilies with septic system completed in June 2024
On May 14, 2024, we were proud to officially hand over the following infrastructures to the Cambodian Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports in the presence of the governor of the Battambang region:
The entire school grounds have been cleaned up and new trees and plants have been added to the playground. In addition, the part of the school complex close to the main road is now completely landscaped by newly planted trees.
Thank you to our partner “The Cambodia Clean Water & Toilet Project” (CCWTP), an Australian NGO that supervised and advised us on the construction and engineering, especially concerning the installation of sanitary facilities with septic system which is a special area that requires expertise outside the normal skills of a construction company.
It was a beautiful inauguration ceremony in presence of children, parents, teachers and Government officials. The Governor of Battambang District, had strong words on education and complemented the Scintillae Foundation on the high quality of the of the school building and toilet blocks.
We now look with pride at the new school building, providing a totally new and friendly environment where children can learn in complete safety.
