Our next project in rural Cambodia

SCHOOL COMPLEX CONSTRUCTION & COMMUNITY SANITATION
Trapean Svay Hom Commune, Siem Reap Province

Project Overview

“Lifting Communities Through Children’s Education and Health”

The Scintillae Foundation has just launched a high-impact project in Trapean Svay, an underprivileged rural community in Cambodia. This two-phase project addresses two of the community’s most urgent needs: access to quality education and improved sanitation and hygiene infrastructure.

PHASE 1: School Complex Construction

    • Construction of a school building with 5 furnished and well ventilated classrooms built to durable standards.
    • Construction of a modern sanitary block with 6 toilets connected to proper septic systems.
    • Educational support which include classroom furnitures, whitboards, desks, and learning materials for students.

PHASE 2: Community Sanitation Improvement

Recognising that education outcomes are deeply connected to overall community health, Phase 2 will expand the projects reach to improve household sanitation and access to clean water for the most vulnerable families in the village:

    • Installation of 70 family toilets with septic tanks.
    • Drilling and installation of 30 clean water wells to provide safe, potable water for every day use.

Local Context – Village of Trapean Svay

    • Located 20 km from Siem Reap, Trapean Svay is home to around 300 families, with many of whom live in poverty.
    • The local school hosts 300 students (166 boys and 138 girls) but all infrastructures are in poor condition: old wooden structures, lack of proper sanitation, overcrowding.
    • Despite this, the school’s management is backed by a reliable administration and highly motivated teachers.

Project Objective

    • Provide a safe and healthy learning environment for children.
    • Reduce hygiene-related illnesses of children and therefore increase school attendance by improving sanitation and clean water in villages.

School project to start in July/August 2025 followed by the Community sanitation and water wells construction.
